“MUSLIMS MUST ACT WITH ONE VOICE, UPHOLD THE TENETS OF BROTHERHOOD”
-Prof. Qudus Amuni admonishes Muslims at Ramadan Lecture/Iftar

Muslims in Nigeria and around the World have been advised to continue to remain steadfast, speak with one strong voice and always uphold the tenets of Brotherhood as demonstrated during the life time of Prophet Muhammed (S.A,W).

This call was made by a high ranking academic scholar, Prof. Kudus Amuni, on Friday evening, 29th March 2024. The occasion was the Ramadan lecture/iftar titled “Togetherness in Islam” hosted by the Director, Centre for General Nigerian Studies (CGNS), Lagos State University (LASU), Prof. Mubashiru Mohammed at his residence, Agbara, Ogun State.

The Professor from Department of Foreign Language, LASU, speaking to the attendees, especially the Muslim Community, comprising of staff, students and family of the host, noted that during the life time of the prophet, he was able to unite the Muslims, whereby they closed ranks and they were able to achieve great successes, which assisted the ummah individually and collectively.
“Muslims must believe in brotherhood. Islam is the connecting factor. We must continue to be one. Islam has united us as well as LASU”, the member, Imam-in-Council, LASU stated.

Speaking further, he enjoined Muslims to be there brothers’ keepers, saying it would go a long way in helping them to achieve a lot of set goals. He was excited that the relationship was getting better amongst Muslims, today, but, asked them to do more. He called on Muslims everywhere to continously speak with one voice, adding that it would go a long way in proffering solutions to many societal challenges. He enjoined Muslims, at their work place, neighbourhood and everywhere to display high level of civility and stand out of the crowd. He ended his admonition with a prayer for the host and his family.

Earlier, before the admonition, the Chairman, LASU Muslim Community, Prof. Babatunde Yusuf, in his welcome remarks underscored the importance of such gathering. He enjoined Muslims to cultivate the habit of hosting others to lecture cum iftar during Ramadan. He observed that it was the first time, a member of the LASU Muslim Community would voluntarily host such event. He thanked Allah for the host and prayed for long life, prosperity and greater heights in life.

The Immediate past chairman, LASU Muslim Community, Prof. Jamiu Oluwatoki made a special prayer for the host, his family and for everyone present.

With the special prayer done, it was the turn of the host, Prof. Mohammed to make his remarks. An elated Director of CGNS, LASU said “In my 36 years as part of LASU, this would be the first time, the Muslim Community would honour me with such an event. I am grateful and appreciate this wonderful gesture”.
He thanked his wife, Mrs Abidat Mohammed for her support and guide. He added that he was back to the fold and no going back. He appreciated the members of LASU Muslim Community that honoured him and graced the occasion as he ended his remarks.

The attendees were treated to fruits and food to break their fast as the well attended Lecture/Iftar ended.

Others in attendance are former Registrar, LASU, Barrister Lateef Animashaun, Esq. , Director, LASU Consult, Prof. Ibrahim Bakare, Assistant Director, ODLRI, Dr. Abideen Tijani, Deputy Registrar, Sandwich Degree Programme, Mr.Kazeem Fapohunda, Head, Facility Unit, Office of the Registrar, Mr. Azeez Ganiyu, PAR, Council Matters, Mr. Moshood Balogun, Head, Information Unit, CIPR, Mr. Gbadegesin Olanrewaju Daud and two SSANU Executives, duo of Mr. Adebisi and Mr. Azeez, as well as others.

The women were in attendance, too. From Dept. of Accounting, Prof. Kadijah Idowu, Dept. of Foreign Language, Dr. Sekinah Arimiyau, Maryam Pedro, Mrs Rihanah Mogaji, CIPR, Bursary, Mrs Kafilah, others as well as students of MSSN, LASU.
