"CARE FOR PARENTS IS NON-NEGOTIABLE" — PROF. AMUNI AT PROF. BOLARINWA'S MOTHER'S FIRDAU PRAYER

The Chief Imam of Lagos State University Muslim Community (LASUMUC), Professor Kudus Amuni, has reminded Muslims that caring for their parents is an obligation that is non-negotiable in Islam. Professor Amuni stated this on Sunday, 4th October 2026, at the 8th Day Firdau Prayer for Alhaja Isiwat Amoke Odunjo, late mother of Professor Sehilat Bolarinwa, held at Abeokuta Grammar School, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta, Ogun State. Recalling his personal encounter with Professor Bolarinwa, the Chairman, Imam-in-Council, LASUMUC noted that despite her tight schedule as a committee member, she always found time to check on her mother at Ilasamaja, Lagos. "The university is run on committee system. Myself and Professor Bolarinwa are members of a committee. Each time we returned from assignments to LASU, she would disembark at Ilasamaja to check on her late mother. Not once, not twice. That is the right thing to do," Professor. Amuni said. He urged children to create time to show love and affection to their parents, not only in old age, and prayed Allah to repose the soul of the deceased. In his admonition, the officiating cleric, Chief Missioner, Ansar-Ud-Deen, Ilasamaja Branch, Sheikh Kamorudeen Zubair, called for unity among the children, warning that Allah frowns at those who sever family ties. "Your mother is gone. Stay united and don't cut family ties. Life is vanity. Death is inevitable. We must do good and eschew evil," he posited. The well-attended prayer was followed by a reception. Meanwhile, the Coordinator, MBA Programme, LASU, Professor Bolarinwa, has expressed profound gratitude to the Chief Imam, Imam-in-Council, Chairman, executives and members, LASUMUC for their presence, prayers and gifts. Late Alhaja Isiwat Amoke Odunjo, who died at age 85, was a former Women Leader of Ansar-Ud-Deen, Division 3, Ilasamaja. She is survived by children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Present at the event were Chairman LASUMUC, Professor Babatunde Yusuf, and Vice-Chairman, Professor Abideen Tijani. Members of LASUMUC in attendance were Professor Tajudeen Olumoko, Professor Nurein Alaka, Professor Lateefah Yahya and Mrs. Halima Bamidele. The Team Lead, Media and Publicity, LASUMUC, Gbadegesin, Olanrewaju Daud, and member Rehanat Mogaji also attended the event.
